Baby Aria Is Here!!!

Yes, my mini-me, my diva, my baby Aria came into this world on December 20th, 2017 at 6:31am! If you saw my pregnancy announcement or baby shower post, then you know I was due January 7th BUT I ended up randomly developing pre-eclampsia at 36 weeks and had to be induced not even a week later. Her and I are both doing amazing now!

I plan on doing a post about my labor and delivery experience a little later on, but for now I just wanted to update y’all and let you know that Aria made her grand entrance into the world.

Our Baby Shower! 11/11/17

As of today, I’m 37 weeks pregnant! Can’t believe I only have 3 weeks left until my due date… and really, at this point Aria could come anytime.

Thanks to our family and friends who came out to our baby shower in back in November, we’re prepared with everything we need. Now we wait. ⏰⏳

In the meantime, I wanted to share some photos my Aunt took of the baby shower. My mom and boyfriend’s mom put it all together and it turned out BEAUTIFUL!

Cupcakes by my best friend Kat Buj. If you live in North Carolina and need any homemade baked goods, hit her up on her Facebook page: Buj Bakes

We had delicious food, a Mom-osa bar, played games… it was a fun day and we appreciated all the love for baby Aria. 💖

Confessions Of An Interracial Dater

love is love
***Guest post by Olyvia of Hello Olyvia***

Hey guys! It’s almost Friday, woot woot. Get excited! Okay, so many people ask me questions about what it’s like to be in an “interracial relationship.”I really hate that term. What is this, the 50s? For the most part, we are just a normal couple. However, there are some obstacles we face that others wouldn’t.

Before dating my boyfriend, I had been alone for a while. The struggles of interracial relationships were long forgotten. I was shocked all over when we got together and I had to deal with the stare again. It sounds dramatic, but that’s because it is. People give us death stares, evil eyeseyes bulging with disbelief, looks of disapproval, and looks of straight up disgust. You name itwe get it. For me, it’s the worst thing we deal with because it’s so constant. Wherever we go I can look up at any given time and see someone staring at us.

If people aren’t staring, it’s because they assume we aren’t together. It’s honestly confusing because we are usually engaging in some form of PDA. It’s just weird when I’m standing in line, extremely close to him or sometimes kissing him, yet the cashiers try to ring us up at different registers. “Oh, y’all are together?” Um, yes actually. I am here with the man I’ve been kissing for like, five minutes. One cashier was petty and tried to ring us up separately after we walked up to her register together. I guess she didn’t approve.

But if you think that’s awkward, it gets worse. Nothing gets more uncomfortable than restaurants. Once my boyfriend, his family, and I went to eat together. I went inside while everyone else parked and asked for a table for eight. Eventually, everyone else came inside and sat with me while we waited. The hostess asked if they were a part of the table of 8 and they said yes, but somehow she ended up confused. I’m not sure how. No one else had 8 people with them.

Our table was finally ready, so she came over and notified my boyfriend’s mom. She got up, and we followed her, but the hostess jumped in front of me as we were walking to the table. “Sorry, ma’am. It’s going to be a few more minutes for yours,” she said. My boyfriend explained to her that we were together. I wanted to explain that even if we were separate, I had gotten there first. Theoretically, this was my table. She turned into a tomato and ran away before I could say anything.

For the most part, I can forget about the strangers who diss me in public. I’m no stranger to racists and I don’t know them or care about their opinion. It’s more difficult when people I know personally insult me because of my choices. I have been told I hate myself and other black people because I’m not with a black guy. Apparently, I have internalized racism that I need to work on. I should get a reality check because nobody can love and understand me like a black man could. Black love is stronger than any other!

I understand where these comments come from (Except black love being stronger  seriously?). There are many people who date interracially for negative reasons. I also get that my boyfriend won’t understand every black issue. What upsets me is that people who know me won’t have a conversation with me about it. They do what the strangers in the street do and assume these things. If they would just open their minds and ask me a question, I would be glad to resolve any confusion.

I don’t have any ulterior motives when it comes to interracial dating. I don’t do it because it’s a fetish, nor do I want “cute mixed babies.” I don’t want babies at all! I do it because I don’t believe in limiting myself to a group of people who look like me. I’ve never bought into the idea that because someone looks like me they will relate to or love me more than someone who doesn’t. Since I kept my mind and heart openI was able to find my soul mate. That is the real point of any type of dating, interracial or not.

So, now you’ve got the inside scoop on what we colorful couples deal with. You might be wondering why we even choose to go through this. It’s a valid question. Most people don’t like being ostracized. But the way I see it, I have two options. I can let ignorance and pettiness stop me from dating who I want or I can suck it up and choose my happiness over conformity. Clearly, I chose the second option. I will always be satisfied knowing I followed my heart.

There is another silver lining to all the conflict. You may have heard the Bible verse “adversity builds character,” and it’s true. The trouble we face as a couple makes us closer. We comfort each other and build resilience together. If we were the same race, we wouldn’t need to do these things. We wouldn’t have the same bond either. I wouldn’t choose any other experience.

Between the two of us, our race doesn’t matter at all. I will admit I do love admiring his tiny, pale nose that is so different from mine. I love when he marvels at my hair and how it shrinks and stretches. But ultimately, these things are only physical. The connection in our relationship is much deeper than that. To answer “what it’s like” dating him, I can only say it’s blissful. My heart is so full knowing that there is someone who can look past our worldly differences and only see my soul.

Should You Serve Your Man? 🤔

I saw a tweet retweeted on my timeline multiple times over the past few days that really made me think… as a woman, should you serve your man?

To summarize what the tweet said: the girl tweeted that she serves her man his plates, cleans up after him, washes his clothes, etc. because he’s the man of the family and works hard. She also went on to say that girls today have too much pride and if they’re so independent that they can’t do anything for their man, then they shouldn’t ask him for shit either.

Now, I follow A LOT of different women on Twitter and because of that there were a lot of different reactions to her tweets.

The majority of the moms that I follow completely agreed that you should serve your man. The majority of the women I follow that are entrepreneurs, bloggers, and/or students weren’t having it. They were like, it’s 2017, he’s working, I’m working, we’re equal. Get your own plate.

I actually agree with both sides in a way. I work and go to school and my man does the same. As much as I consider myself a feminist and a strong, independent woman, I still find myself doing the “womanly” duties around the house for the most part. BUT if I’ve had a long day at work or school and I’m tired, I’m not doing anything but relaxing when I get home. I refuse to fix his plate when I’m exhausted and he has two working legs!

Not to be intentionally mean or petty, but we are equals. He works, I work, we both pay bills. So if I’m extra tired then that’s his cue to cater to me. If he’s had a long day and he’s tired/stressed, then that’s my cue to cater to him.

I agree with the tweets in that you should serve your man. If he’s treating you well, then you should do the same in return, and your man should serve you as well. Both people should give to the relationship equally and do what works best for them as a couple.

What do you think?

Family and FOOD!! Autumn Leaves Festival 2017

On Friday I got to go to the Autumn Leaves Festival in Mt. Airy, NC. I look forward to the Autumn Leaves Festival every year, because basically all the festival is is good ole southern food and shopping— my two favorite things!

My family and I have been going to the festival every since I can remember. My grandparents grew up in Mt. Airy and we still have some family there.

I was extra excited this year, because as y’all know I’m pregnant. Pregnancy has given me the ability to eat more than a grown man twice my size, so I was ready to indulge in allllllll the food that I’m usually too full for.

When we get to the festival, we always stop for a ground steak sandwich first, then make our way through all the other food stands as we shop. This photo is actually the second ground steak sandwich I ate as we were leaving. I was too hungry to take a picture of the first one. 😂

And last but not least, the collard greens, fatback, and cornbread sandwich…

I had a dream about this sandwich a few nights before we went to the festival, so I was so happy when I finally got my hands on it lol.

In between all the eating and shopping, my little cousin, Xalia, got fairy hair done. If you look closely you can see the little rainbow streaks in her hair. It was so cute!

Autumn Leaves Festival 2017 was a success!! Even though I had heartburn for 12+ hours afterwards, I have no regrets. 😂

Hope y’all had a good weekend as well!

Want To REALLY Get To Know Yourself? Live Alone

girl and dog

Living alone is so liberating. Your home, your rules, your decor, your food… you get the point. If you wanna clean the house naked, blasting music you can. Or if you don’t wanna clean you don’t have to.

I lived by myself for a little over 6 years and I learned A LOT during that time. Not just typical things like how to cook or how plastic grocery bags are perfectly good trash bags. I learned a lot about myself and what I wanted out of life.

When you spend so much time by yourself, you have no choice but to get to know yourself. You spend your free time doing exactly what you want to do when you want to do it. You find many more hobbies and interests that you didn’t know you had. And most importantly, you get comfortable doing all those things by yourself.

I truly feel that once you’re comfortable being by yourself and doing everything by yourself, for yourself, you’re so much more comfortable and confident in any situation, whether it be your career or relationships.

My boyfriend and I have been living together for almost a year now and I absolutely love having him to come home to and spend time with. Our “cohabiting” relationship has been successful so far and I attribute it to the fact that he and I both lived alone before we moved in together. Not saying anything negative would happen to our relationship, but we both know if it did, and we had to be back on our own, we would be fine. I know I can easily take care of myself and he can do the same… and that’s what makes our relationship that much better. We WANT to be together, but we don’t need to. I think that is especially important as a woman.

So want to find out who you REALLY are? Just live alone for a while. I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what you find out.

I’m Back And I’m Better! (Announcement + Update)

I know I’ve been gone for tooooo long. I was on a roll blogging regularly for about 6 months straight and then… life happened. To be honest, I still could have and should have continued blogging, so I’m not gonna make this post a whole list of excuses. Instead I’m going to come right out and share what’s been going on in my life since we last talked. Sooooo…

baby girl announcement

it's a girl ultrasound

Yes, my boyfriend and I are expecting a baby girl in January! I’m super excited to have a little diva running around.. and as you can see, my dog Lady is excited about becoming a big sister lol. I’m currently 23 weeks, so a little over 5 months pregnant. I was super sick and exhausted the entire first trimester, but I’ve been feeling fabulous during my second trimester. The baby is healthy and developing normally, so we’re happy about that.

Well, that’s where I’ve been! Now back to your regularly scheduled programming… Talk to y’all later!

I’m Lovin’ The McDonald’s Signature Crafted Recipes

With as busy as I am between working multiple jobs and being a student, I’m not gonna lie.. I eat fast food a lot. I stop by McDonald’s a lot because they have the best iced coffee. Although I can drown myself in McCafe iced caramel mochas, I get tired of eating nuggets or a plain ol’ chicken sandwich after a while. That’s why I was excited when I got to try the new Signature Crafted Recipes at McDonald’s.

McDonald's Signature Crafted tasting Triad Women Bloggers Network at McDonald's

I got to do the tasting with my ladies at Triad Women Bloggers Network and I think all of us were impressed with how easily we were able to customize our own perfect sandwich. I started out by choosing what meat I wanted on my sandwich, what type of bun, and finally, the topping. I ended up with this:

McDonald's Maple Dijon Crispy Chicken McDonald's Maple Dijon on Artisan Roll

A maple bacon dijon buttermilk crispy chicken sandwich on an artisan roll! It was delicious. It was much more filling than a typical chicken sandwich and definitely more flavorful. The butter milk crispy chicken was topped with white cheddar, lettuce, Applewood smoked bacon, and a creamy dijon sauce. *insert heart eyes emoji*

We also got to try a new invention by McDonald’s… the frork:

McDonald's frork McDonald's frork

The idea is that you stick three french fries in it and use them to scoop up and eat the toppings that fall out of your sandwich. I found out that it’s also a fun way to dip your fries in ketchup.

All in all I was impressed with the sandwich I created off of the McDonald’s Signature Crafted menu. I didn’t have to put any ranch dressing on it.. and trust me, if it doesn’t need ranch it’s pretty damn good.

I plan on going back and trying some of the other combinations– the sweet BBQ bacon flavor is next on my list!

3 Style Items That Empower Me

***Guest post by Melissa Jellie from Individually Chic***

As a female, it’s important to me that when I go out, I feel confident. Many of the jobs and fields that I work in are prominently male. My style changes daily based on my mood of the day. Some days I dress in all pink and dresses, while other days I dress more street or punk. Some days it’s a combo of many style! While I’m usually confident, here are three style items that make me feel extra empowered:

I have a lot of shoes. Probably too many. There are a few pairs of shoes that I own, though, that I rock no matter what the rest of my outfit is.

pink doc martens

My pink Dr. Martens are one of my favorite pairs of shoes that I own. I was on a waitlist for about 2 years just to get the perfect pair of pastel pink boots – which sold out so quickly. These boots are bigger than some of the other boots that I own and I just feel cool when I’m out wearing them. I can do anything.

black booties with strings
My black heels also empower me. These heels aren’t just any heel – they’ve got a beautiful loud click when you walk on a hardwood floor. There’s something about that click that makes me walk with a bit more confidence. I feel like a model or something. If you’re in a quiet store, you may feel a bit awkward, but I’ve learned not to. As long as you look confident, nobody will question it.

Leather Jacket

I got my first leather (pleather) jacket a long time ago. It was a beautiful moment. I was probably in high school still. It was a black leather jacket with a cool splatter effect on the inside. I rocked it with every outfit that I wore.

brown gold leather jacket

Since then, my collection has grown. I now own 7 leather jackets all in different colors so that I can have one for anything I wear. When I wear a leather jacket, it automatically spices up my outfit and I’m fierce. Now pair a leather jacket and one of the shoes from above. OH BOY.

A Bold Lip

I actually wear a paler lip on most days – either a pastel pink or a more nude color. It’s just easier for my every day life. When I’m going out for the night or just when I feel like it, however, I throw a bolder, brighter lip color on. These are the days when I actually get the most compliments. A bright lip not only brightens my face up, but my personality because I KNOW I’m pulling it off well. I especially love wearing a bold lip with a black top or jacket to make it pop a little more.

bold lip colors

So combine a cool shoe, a leather jacket, and a bold lip and you will have an extra boost of confidence to guide you through the day! Even separately, these all empower me and make me feel like a strong woman, whether I’m at work or just out grocery shopping.

My Favorite Video Games On Every Console

girl holding switch

If y’all watch my vlogs or follow my instagram then you probably know that I play video games from time to time. Between my boyfriend and I, we have owned/own pretty much every single gaming console that has ever existed. Although I don’t really consider myself to be a gamer(and my boyfriend likes to remind me of that when I attempt to play his games, and can barely even make the character walk straight) I’ve been trying to expand my horizons on the games that I play lately. So today I decided to share a list of my favorite games for every console I’ve played recently.

PS4 FAVORITE: Life Is Strange

The storyline of this game is sooo good. It’s more like a movie or TV show than it is a game. It’s about a student named Max who realizes she has the ability to rewind time and change the outcome of situations. I don’t want to spoil too much in case you decide to play it, but an example of this is at the beginning of the game. Max witnesses a classmate murdering another classmate, so Max rewinds time so she can stop the murder from happening. The choice of when to rewind time and when not to is completely up to you, the player… but every decision you make has a consequence and you won’t know if it’s good or bad until it happens. Life Is Strange gets very addicting, because like a TV show or movie, you want to find out what’s gonna happen next.

I don’t know how anyone could say their favorite 3DS game is anything other than Pokemon. That’s the whole reason I got my 3DS! I’ve loved the Pokemon games since Gameboy, and they’re definitely my favorite games of all time. Judge me. Pokemon Moon was one of the best out of the Pokemon series, in my opinion. The graphics are the best they’ve ever been. The storyline was good and much different than all the others(there are trials instead of gyms). The only thing I didn’t like about this game(and I noticed the same issue in OmegaRuby) is how easy it is to beat. In the old Pokemon games, the battles were much harder. Maybe it was because I was like 8 at the time but still… I think they did dumb these newer Pokemon games down a little bit. For example, your “rival” usually has the type of Pokemon that is strong against your starter Pokemon, so that it’s harder to beat them. Let’s say you start with a fire Pokemon.. your rival would have a water type Pokemon, because water is strong against fire. In the newer Pokemon games if you start with a fire type, your rival will have a grass type, which is weak against fire. See what a mean? Other than that, Pokemon Moon was the shit and I’m anticipating the next Pokemon game already.

XBOX ONE FAVORITE: Bully(Scholarship Edition)

Bully is technically an old PS2 game that was made available on Xbox 360, but play it on Xbox One. I don’t really like many Xbox games, so if you have any suggestions for me leave them in the comments. Anyway, Bully is an oldie but goodie. You play as a new student at a boarding school. You can play pranks on the preps, fight the jocks, help the nerds, go to class(or don’t)… the opportunities are endless. Just don’t get caught. It’s fun, because basically you just go around being an asshole.

I’ve never played any PC games other than The Sims, so obviously it’s my favorite. I’m not gonna say much about this game… it’s been around forever and everyone’s played it. If you don’t know what it is, what are you doing with your life?? I have yet to play the University expansion pack, but it’s next on my list to get.

NINTENDO SWITCH FAVORITE: The Legend Of Zelda Breath of the Wild

There’s really no other choice for a favorite game on the Switch right now. THIS. IS. IT. Even if more games had been released for the Switch already, this would probably still be my favorite.(Unless they released a Pokemon game, of course *hair flip*) I enjoyed The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on my Nintendo64 back in the day, so I already knew I would like this game. Will I ever finish this game? I don’t know, but it’s definitely a good game and one that will keep you occupied for HOURS.
